What Are the Types of Retainers?

At Aréte Orthodontics, we offer a range of retainer options, including the following:

Hawley Retainers: Hawley retainers are made from a custom-molded hard plastic or acrylic plate that fits over the roof of the mouth or behind your lower teeth and a wire that wraps around the front teeth. We can adjust the metal wire if we need to make minor corrections to your smile.
Clear Retainers: Also known as Essix retainers, our clear retainers offer a discreet option to maintain the alignment of your smile. Like Hawley retainers, your clear retainers are lab-created to the specifications of your teeth and bite, providing a perfect fit.
Vivera Retainers: Vivera retainers are made by Invisalign using the same cutting-edge technology and process used to create your Invisalign clear aligners.

How Long Will You Need to Wear Retainers?

The length of time you'll need to wear retainers will depend on your unique needs. In general, most of our patients need to wear their retainers day and night for about 12 months. From then on, we typically recommend wearing retainers only at night to maintain your treatment results.
