What Is Presurgical Orthodontics?

Presurgical orthodontics involves aligning your teeth in preparation for orthognathic surgery. For patients with significant bite or jaw misalignments, braces or Invisalign clear aligners are typically required before surgery to move the teeth into a position that allows the surgeon to correctly align the jaw. The combination of orthodontic treatment and surgery is designed to correct both the aesthetic and functional aspects of your smile.

Your presurgical orthodontics journey is a fully personalized process tailored to your unique needs. In general, here is a look at what you can expect:

Braces or Clear Aligner Treatment: We will begin by placing braces or Invisalign clear aligners to align your bite and gently move your teeth into the desired position. The goal is to create proper spacing and positioning for your teeth, laying the groundwork for successful surgery.
Monitoring Your Progress: Throughout your orthodontic treatment, we will carefully monitor your progress and ensure that your teeth are moving into the optimal position for surgery. We will make any needed adjustments to your treatment plan, if necessary, to achieve the desired results.

Post-Surgical Orthodontics: Most of our patients require orthodontic treatment 6 weeks after their surgery to fine-tune their results.
